Dirty laundry…Did You Know

It is suspected that the powerful detergents used in laundry products to make them cleaner, whiter and brighter may actually be the cause of many misdiagnosed skin disorders. Chemical contact dermatitis issues for people with sensitive skin have been reversed when people have discontinued using some of the more popular detergents in favor of more natural solutions. Some of the suspects are:

•Surfactants. create bubbles, suds in laundry detergents and makes skin more permeable
•Chlorine. Found in laundry bleach and some detergents will irritate and have residual buildup
•Fragrances. The chemicals that give mainstream laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and dryer sheets their fresh scent can irritate skin.
•Dryer sheets. chemicals that saturate dryer sheets like chloroform, camphor, and ethyl acetate appear on the EPA's Hazardous Waste list
•Optical brighteners. Chemicals that brighten or whiten fabrics coat the surface of fabrics with fluorescent particles that act like mirrors and reflect visible light. Many come from benzene.

Washing clothes in baking soda with vinegar rinse maybe the right prescription for your patients that have given up hope over skin disorders.

May Is Melanoma Month

Our Solar Rx is a physical sunblock and is Chemical-Free. We use only Zinc Oxide in a lotion similar to our Luminos product to provide SPF30+ protection from broad spectrum UVA and UVB radiation.

UVA and UVB Radiation The simplest way to remember why it is important to stay out of the sun is that UVA stands for UV Aging and UVB stand for UV Burning.

New EWG Skin Deep 3.0 Report

The new Skin Deep report is out and there are quite a few changes.

First, a problem has occurred for Keys and a number of other manufacturers. Somehow ten of our 14 products were accidentally deleted. Also, products that were in multiple categories have been truncated. They are working on a solution for us.

Our ranking is basically the same, but because of the category consolidation, we show up with unrelated products.

The changes include bundled categories containing general product information and a new numeric rating system. The old system ranked products on a scale of 0 to 5 and the new scale is 1 to 10. It seems harder to read the report as it features the worst products first.

Keys Growing!!!

We are in our new factory. It is a totally “Green” facility and capable of extremely large volume. The Natural Medicine market is growing in huge leaps and we are pleased to be able to respond.

Terrible Two’s?

In June we will be two years old as a formal business. We really launched Keys at the 2005 Natural Products Expo East in September 2005.

Our growth has been amazing and now with the new factory, we have much more capability.

It seems so long ago that we started to market our products and we have continued to gain new customers, improve our products and learn. When we started it was with four products and now we are at over 14 plus various collections and sizes. Wow!

Keys June News

Consumer Reports Ranks Keys Solar Rx Top Cosmetic Sunblock!

Well, it is safe to say we were surprised about the news that our Solar Rx SPF 30+ Sunblock was ranked the #1 sunblock by Consumer Reports Magazine. CRM does not inform the manufacturers that they are testing and buy product on the open market for their testing.

There were two categories tested. The water resistant sunscreens and a category we call cosmetic. Keys ranked number 1 in the category providing superior-excellent UVA protection.

Most people do not know that the antiquated SPF rating system is only for UVB. It was a pleasant surprise to see CRM address the UVA rating as its primary marker. For years, sunscreen manufacturers have played the game of using chemicals that boost the UVB ranking, but ignore the aging UVA rays.

Keys is a sun avoidance company and we are members of the Skin Cancer Foundation “Inner Circle.” Our advocacy is teaching people to cover-up, use broad spectrum sunblock on exposed skin, wear a broad brim SPF 30+ hat and wear sunglasses that are UVA-UVB rated. The other sunscreens are for those people who enjoy the sun. Our products are for those people who must avoid the sun because of sensitive skin or those who want to avoid skin cancer. UVA, UVB and UVC are the primary cause of Skin Cancer’s. Melanoma, the deadliest form has risen in frequency by 40% in the last ten years and strike babies, young children, teens and adults without discrimination.

New EWG Skin Deep 3.0 Report

The new Skin Deep 3.0 is still sorting out its issues. Some of our product rankings are still missing and some have had newer better ratings assigned to them. We continue to support the Skin Deep Report, although the changes have kept us on our toes

Keys New Factory

Our Green line is totally operational. All Keys products are being produced on this sterile line. You might notice some subtle changes in our products. They will be smoother, have a glisten to them and they will be more consistent than before.

The products will be smoother because of new mixing vessels that homogenize through the entire process. The glisten, come from a state-of-the-art water purification system that now ads a deionizer. The consistency comes from new high tech computerized controls and micro-scale weighing systems that measure in grams to 6 decimal places.

For you Google Earther’s, our new address is 979 Corporate Blvd, 21090

Therapy Facts Panel™

We have added a Therapy Facts Panel to our product labeling. It will be on all of our labels by the end of the summer. These panels resemble the Nutrition Facts panel that we see on most food products. We decided to go this direction to fully disclose what we use in our products and the concentrations. You can take a look at these panels by going to any of the products on our store and click the detail button under the picture of the product.

Thank You!

As we told you before, we are now over two years old as a real business. Our major market launch was at the Natural Product Expo East in September 2005 and our growth has been very good because of you our returning customers.

We are now doubling our new customer list every month and our returning customers are at extraordinarily high numbers. This humbles us and inspires us to continue to search for natural medicinal skin therapies.

So thank you for your faith in Keys. We are working for you.

What is Neem and Karanja Oil?

Last month we announced that our line of Topical Therapies added Karanja oil to the Neem that we have been using. We received a number of inquiries asking what Karanja and Neem are and where they come from. So here is a bit of history.

Neem and Karanja come from India and have been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 1000 years. Both have two very interesting properties. First, they are incredibly powerful natural skin medicines. They also are a broad spectrum insect repellent with a list of over 200 insects that they repel.

We use both of these oils in our Topical Therapies for both the skin healing properties and the ability to repel insects. These oils are found in our MetaClean Soap, RediCare Spray and MetaCare lotion in progressively higher concentrations. See the Therapy Facts panels on each of the products for details.

EWG Reverses Anti-Nano Position

News Flash!!! EWG Reverses Anti-Nano Position Regarding Zinc Oxide

Here is the section from the FAQ section of the EWG report on Sunscreens. Click The Icon To The Left To Read Details

“Environmental Working Group is among the many advocacy groups who have raised concerns about whether the rapidly expanding use of nanotechnology poses risks to human health or the environment. Many zinc and titanium sunscreens contain nanosize particles, even when they are not on the label.

Although we expected to reach a different conclusion at the outset of our sunscreen investigation, when we balanced all factors important in sunscreen safety, we found many zinc and titanium-based sunscreens that our analysis shows are among the safest and most effective sunscreens on the market. Our product ratings reflect our concern about the very real dangers of cancer and other health hazards from sun exposure, balanced against concerns about the potential health hazards of sunscreen ingredients” EWG
